The New foundation of the Apostolic Carmel Sisters, Galle
on 05th Dec 2011

This is a good news for all of us. Sister M. Carmella A.C. , the Provincial Superior of Sri Lanka writes :" I am sure you will be happy to know that we opened our 39th convent in Sri Lanka Province , 'Veronica Villa' in Galle on 5, December 2011. This is a historical foundation because it is associated with the staying of our revered Founder Mother Veronica in Galle, Sri Lanka, on her way to India .

She stayed eight days in a small room behind the then chapel, making her abode together with Sr.Marie Jospeh in 1862. Their ship was anchored at Galle harbour. She loved this place and wrote to Sr.Agnes ten years later:"Oh!that island paradise, when will I see again. May be when I am nearing my end in God's presence ."

The convent was declared open by the newly elected Bishop of Galle, His Lorship Rt. Rev.Dr.Raymond Wicremesinghe in the presence of our Suprior General Sister Agatha Mary A.C.
