On 22nd June 2010 His Grace the Archbishop Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Spiteri blessed and declared open, a newly constructed Blessed Sacrament Chapel at the Shrine of Our Lady of Matara. This had been a long felt need of the pilgrims who wished to spend some time with the Lord privately.  Very Rev. Fr. Nihal Nanayakkara, the Administrator of the Diocese of Galle and a few other priests assisted at the opening ceremony attended by a large number of parishioners.  Rev. Fr. Charles Hewawasam, the administrator of the Shrine thanked the donors for their generosity.
